Jonathan came to Wet Planet at the end of the 2005 season. With only short term plans in mind, he made himself at home and became part of the fabric of the guide community and decided never to leave! Jonathan is a “Planeteer” for life and has settled permanently in the Columbia River Gorge where he works year-round as a Critical Care RN when he isn’t on the river.
Born and raised in the whitewater mecca of Eugene, Oregon, Jonathan has been on Northwest rivers since his early years. He had his first rowing experience at age 3 in his father’s lap and started guiding in Oregon at age 16 on the McKenzie River. Jonathan guides rafts on the White Salmon, Klickitat, and Tieton rivers, instructs whitewater kayaking and teaches swiftwater rescue courses. He also support kayaks on our class V trips down the Farmlands, Hood, and Wind rivers and loves to be involved with our First Descents programs.
Jonathan has a passion for travel and has kayaked on every continent except Antarctica and Africa. Jonathan makes a point of a yearly adventure to some new country or exotic location. A few of his adventures include spending a year as a nurse in 12 countries Asia, paddling the largest river in Chile (the Rio Baker), getting stranded for days hitchhiking in Argentine Patagonia, petting wild Orangutans in Kalimantan, kite-surfing in Baja, backpacking to the southernmost city in the world, and heli-kayaking in New Zealand!

* Registered Nurse, Critical Care
