WP: How many seasons have you been employed at Wet Planet?
JB: This will be my fourth full summer at WP.
WP: Being that you’ve been around WP for awhile, what responsibilities do you have?
JB: I do a lot of different things. I guide rafts on the White Salmon, Klickitat, Hood, and Tieton Rivers, instruct beginning and intermediate kayaking, and work as a support kayaker on the harder rafting rivers. I also teach Whitewater Rescue courses. When I’m not out on the river, I work in the office taking reservations, making espresso, or selling photos. I also do a lot of the raft repair and gear bay maintenance.. I keep pretty busy…
WP: Looking back on season 2008, what was one of your most favorite memories?
JB: I think watching Liz’s boat flip over in front of me, thinking “that doesn’t look good,” and then I preformed the exact same impressive maneuver was a highlight. A double flip! Impressive indeed! I also love taking first-timers over Husum Falls. I took a 78 year old last summer.
WP: What have you been keeping yourself busy with this winter?
JB: I spent this past winter taking classes here in the Gorge and kiteboarding in Baja.
WP: What are you looking forward to the most in this upcoming season?
JB: I want to raft the Grand Canyon in 2009. I just applied for a lottery permit for Fall 2009, but I need to win the lottery first…
WP: Tell us one thing about yourself, one interesting fact, that we may not already know about Jonathan Blum!
JB: One factoid about me: I’ve lost more than $1000 of Oakley sunglasses on river trips, so now I only wear cheap sunglasses that have white frames and are oversize so they are hard to loose… oh, and our guests like them too…
Thank You Jonathan for catching up with WP and answering a few questions . . . Make sure you say “hi” to Jonathan on your visit with Wet Planet. He’s the really tall guy, walking around with green swim trunks . . . and, as you read earlier, you will probably see him doing everything around the Planet!
