The goal of the Eddy Flower Vertical Challenge – You have a month to paddle the most vertical feet per mile of river. You can only paddle the same river 5 times.
There are many different categories you can enter your team in – women’s division, class III, class IV, class V, co-ed, weekend warriors. Well, we have a team consisting of Wet Planet employees, thus we are called team “Wet Planet”. The team consists of “off the couch, run the gnar” Todd Collins, “the ladies man” Gynner, our lovely riverboarder “you will never see a better smile” Liz, the unstoppable “jedi” Andy Round and “the pink huckster” me!
So far, with about 25 teams in our division, we are ranked third . . . not bad! I have come to the realization today, after arriving at the put-in, that I might be taking this fun, little competition too seriously. Here’s why:
1. This last Saturday me and a friend were calculating the most vertical feet per mile sections of river and planning out our week and what to paddle when.
2. I made myself paddle today – even though I was extremely tired – just to keep building up my vertical feet (we have 5 days left, I can do it!)
3. I keep checking the website to make sure we are still in third place . . .
Okay, okay, so I’m a little competitive. All in good fun! I’m super glad to be a part of team “Wet Planet”, as we have some dedicated river people here. FYI – we are also taking donations for the “First Descent” organization. If you would like to donate, contact me firstname.lastname@example.org and we will gladly accept the help – as, I am currently working on getting a First Descents camp out here in the Columbia River Gorge.
Take care everyone! Happy paddling . . .
