As a company who operates outdoors and thrives on person-to-person connection, social distancing is a complete 180 for our Wet Planet staff and community. We are staying home to keep ourselves and our community healthy (and hope that you are too!), but being active is part of our lifestyle, so we’ve been searching for ways to stay active while social distancing.
We know it’s tough, but here are some general tips for staying healthy and active while you’re stuck at home. One of the best things you can do for yourself is to create a new routine, or follow your old routine to the best of your ability, and make sure that physical exercise is part of it! Get up each day and do a quick yoga session or bodyweight workout.
Lucky for us, many local businesses in White Salmon and Hood River have come up with some great ways to stay active and be part of the virtual community. Stay active while social distancing with virtual classes and workouts from our local favorites:
Yoga Samadhi – Yoga classes through Zoom
Our partners at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon are streaming online yoga classes! Try out an intense Hatha class with Kaitlin, or a more restorative Yin & Yang class with Kathy. Yoga Samadhi has something for everyone!
Whether you’re a local who wants to stay connected with the Yoga Samadhi community, or a friend from across the country who wants to try out a new type of class, joining in on one of their live streaming sessions will be sure to leave you mentally and physically better than you started. Pay for classes on a sliding scale depending on your current level of hardship. Check out Yoga Samadhi’s schedule of online classes here, or follow them on Facebook for the most recent updates.
Power Station Hood River – Virtual Workouts on SugarWOD
The Power Station is a local Hood River gym is offering video warm ups, work-out explanations, and four different styles of workouts via the SugarWOD app. The four workout tracks are as follows:

All of the tracks are easily accessed in the SugarWOD app, and you can cast them to your TV to make it easier to follow along. Check out the recent warm-up they shared.
Whether you have a full home gym or no equipment at all, PSHR will get you moving and connected. They’re even offering virtual private training sessions via Zoom! Find their full list of COVID-19 options here.
Fitness and Sport Evolution – Online Fitness Training
Fitness & Sport Evolution boasts an intensive 3-Month Online program that is sure to keep you shredding pounds way after social distancing is over. Build a routine with custom coaching, diet analysis and meal planning, and much more. Owned by Heather Herbeck, previous Wet Planet kayak instructor and current Jackson Kayaks athlete, Fitness & Sport Evolution is also a favorite for kayakers who want to maintain their strength while off the water. Check out Heather’s workout Heather recently led for Jackson Kayaks and the paddling community!
Whether you are a kayaker looking for a fitness alternative, regular yogi at Yoga Samadhi, or gym rat looking to continue working out from home, these three local businesses have great options to stay active while social distancing. Join the virtual community now, and get stoked to join the in-person community when we all re-open!
Hopefully these virtual classes will help you create a routine and be part of an online community. Add to your routine by eating healthy and creating set times each day for meals and workouts. Take time to virtually connect with others and check in with your friends and family, and invite them to join a virtual workout with you! Check in with your neighbors too, and help each other out. If you’re feeling mentally drained, limit your time on social media, and opt for a book instead. Start a new hobby, like building a garden! Most of all, take care of yourself and your loved ones.
We are all adjusting to our current reality of staying home, and know that it’s so important to comply with state mandates to keep yourself and your community healthy. From the Wet Planet family to you – keep it up! You’re doing great, and we will all weather this storm together. This too shall pass, and we will be ready for some much-needed time on the river, to spend our summer days in the sunshine, and to share time and space with you when we are on the other side of this pandemic!
