Women of all skill levels, from first-time kayaker to confident Class V boater, are invited to join Wet Planet Whitewater this summer for our Women’s Paddle Kayaking series. Wet Planet Lead Instructor Libby Tobey has designed a program that is versatile and progressive, allowing experienced boaters to be challenged, while also giving someone with the time and ambition the ability to progress from first-time paddler to multi-day, Class III boater in the span of a summer.
Wet Planet’s Women’s kayak clinics were started by Heather Herbeck. “Every woman wants to feel successful . . . this environment brings women together to share, support, challenge and laugh! Best of all . . . we leave our egos at the put-in!”
Libby has been teaching the Women’s kayak clinics at Wet Planet since 2013. This year as Assistant Kayak Program Manager and Lead Kayak Instructor, she has added more and redesigned the clinics. Joining Libby and assisting in instructing this season will be a handful of prominent female kayakers, including professional athletes Nicole Mansfield, Kim Russell, Lana Young, and Lori Turbes.
According to Lori, “Every woman deserves a chance to discover her full potential. Being surrounded by fellow female paddlers, these clinics set the stage for each woman to accomplish just that.”
Classes will include a Rock, Tuck & Roll clinic for those who would like to improve their combat roll; a kayaking basics course for those who want an introduction to the sport; Yoga for Kayaking, for those who want to improve their focus and flexibility on the water; a 5 day trip on the Lower Salmon; a creeking clinic; and a self-support clinic, for those that want to do overnights.
