Ethan grew up in Ft. Walton Beach, FL. His love of water began early, when he was introduced to sailing and wind surfing at the age of 9. When he was 16, he moved to the mountains and started skiing and running rivers. That led to a career in ski patrolling and raft guiding in Colorado. He began guiding in 1996 on the Arkansas River. After spending 6 seasons there, he ventured on to the Taylor River for the following decade, where he met his wife. He has also guided on the Gauley River in West Virginia, the Rio Grande in New Mexico, and has kayaked across the west in Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Washington, California, Idaho, and Colorado.
When he’s not on the river, you can find Ethan rock climbing, ice climbing, mountain biking, bike touring, or playing hide and seek with his four year old daughter.
