ABOUT ME
Dylan | Kayak Instructor & River Guide
Dylan was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico — the Land of Enchantment, or as locals call it, “the land of perpetual drought.” Growing up surrounded by dust and dry creeks only fueled his fascination with water. He started kayaking in middle school but shifted his focus to mountain biking, sailing, climbing, and skiing after moving to the Pacific Northwest in high school.
It wasn’t until college at Western Washington University that Dylan found his way back to whitewater. Thanks to the generous Torryd Crew, who lent him gear and a boat, his passion for paddling was reignited. The abundance of creeks and the vibrant river community in Northwest Washington kept him paddling every chance he got.
Wanting to share the river with others, Dylan began guiding and teaching — even switching his major from Finance to Outdoor Recreation Management and Leadership to fully embrace life outdoors. After a season raft guiding in Northwest Washington, he hit the road to Colorado, chasing rivers and teaching kayaking on the Arkansas River as an ACA-certified instructor.
Dylan’s teaching experience has since expanded to sea kayaking expeditions with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) in southern Chile and guiding youth trips in Idaho’s backcountry. An ACA Kayak Instructor and Remote Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Dylan now guides both raft trips on the White Salmon and multi-day adventures on Idaho’s Main Salmon, as well as teaching Wet Planet’s kayak courses.
When he’s not on the river, Dylan’s likely biking, paddling, or climbing pretty much everything the Gorge has to offer.
