When late summer arrives and other Pacific Northwest rivers begin to slow down, the Tieton River wakes up for the ultimate season finale! Powered by scheduled dam releases from Rimrock Lake, the Tieton offers a fast-paced, non-stop Class III+ roller coaster ride through the scenic Yakima Valley.

Because the Tieton trips run out of a remote, private mobile base camp in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest (rather than headquarters in Husum/White Salmon), turning your trip into a weekend camping getaway is a great way to soak in the autumn beauty, golden ponderosa pines, and crisp mountain air.

Pro Tips for Your Tieton Weekend

Download Directions in Advance: Cell reception drops significantly once you head west along Highway 12 in the canyon. Save your offline Google Maps and campground reservation information before driving out.

Book Ahead (or Arrive Early): September weekend spots fill up fast due to the short, high-action rafting window. Reserve USFS sites on Recreation.gov where possible, or grab first-come, first-served spots early on Friday.

Warm Water, Warm Layers: While the dam-released water is comfortably warm compared to typical snowmelt, late September air in the Cascades can be crisp—bring cozy fleece layers and warm gear for around the campfire!
