ABOUT ME
Originally from Texas, Kate’s first paddling memories were family canoe trips down the St. Croix River and the Rio Grande in Big Bend National Park, one of her favorite places in the world. She studied animal science at Texas A&M University and is a wildlife and conservation nerd. When she’s not on the water Kate loves hiking, kayaking, birding, surfing or just reading a good book in a beautiful place (she’s always looking for recommendations, tell her your favorite book!)
Kate started her guiding career on the Chattooga River in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. She quickly fell in love with guiding and has spent the last 5 summers on the Chattooga. During the off season Kate keeps boating, splitting her time between multi-day trips on the Rio Grande and guiding on the Tongariro river in New Zealand.
Kate is keen for a season learning new rivers, working with a new team and connecting with the larger community in White Salmon. One of her favorite things about guiding is getting to know the story of each river, from the flora and fauna to the history and geology and sharing that with folks on the river. She is passionate about facilitating experiences in wild places and truly believes that time spent in these incredible places helps build an appreciation that translates into advocacy and protection of our rivers. She’s excited to share her passion with all of you at Wet Planet.
