Max has been inextricably drawn to water since around age 4. Lifelong learning and fulfillment that accompany being on the water keep him coming back for more. Max was bitten by the whitewater bug during his teenage years on the Potomac River outside of Washington D.C. During college, he continued his whitewater education on America’s Founding River; the mighty James in Richmond, VA (the largest river to be contained in one state). Progression in kayaking has led Max up and down the eastern seaboard in pursuit of new rivers and creeks, across the country to Colorado, California, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, and across the globe to Nepal. Off the water, Max enjoys photography, hiking, backpacking, hanging out with dogs, reading books, seeing live music, recycling, and telling pirate jokes.
Max is a certified Wilderness First Responder and Whitewater Rescue Technician. His work in the outdoor industry started with the Outdoor Adventure Program at Virginia Commonwealth University, and most recently included working as an Assistant Instructor with the Northwest Outward Bound School. He is most excited to provide safe and challenging experiences on the rivers of the Columbia River Gorge teaching kayaking and raft guiding with Wet Planet. Let whitewater change your life as it has Max’s!
