Calvin grew up in northern Virginia where he started to explore his love for rivers at a very young age. His first forays into paddling consisted of multi-week to month long self-support canoe trips throughout Canada, some extending as far north as Nunavut. After accumulating thousands of river miles in his canoe, Calvin began raft guiding at the age of 16. His early raft guide experiences took place on the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers in West Virginia, until his sense of adventure led him west. Most recently, Calvin has moved to Tacoma, Washington to attend the University of Puget Sound studying both Geology and Economics.
Since learning to kayak on East Coast runs like the Lower Big Sandy, the Upper Yough, and of course his home river, the beautiful Shenandoah, Calvin has been fortunate enough to kayak incredible rivers throughout the Northwest with a list including Robe Canyon, Top Tye, the Crooked River, Tumwater Canyon, Green Truss/Farmlands sections of the White Salmon, and the Chelan Gorge.
