Located in Husum, Washington on the banks of the White Salmon River, the Wet Planet Cafe and Grill Menu strives to use fresh, local ingredients that reflect the bounty in our community. Looking for somewhere to eat in the Columbia River Gorge, out of town and off the beaten track? Check – this place is it.
One of our guests summed it up perfectly in a recent review: “Restaurant quality food at a rafting outpost!”
What is Farm to Table, and why?
Farm to Table is a simple name for a simple concept: take foods from local farms and put it on the table. If you delve a bit deeper than that, it takes on more meaning. For us at the Wet Planet Café & Grill it is about using ingredients that reflect that place we have come to love – the White Salmon and Columbia River Valleys. We want to use fresh, local flavors not because it’s the newest fad, but because we want to share the area with our guests. From the King Salmon caught on the Klickitat River, to the greens and veggies grown on the other side of the ridgeline in Snowden, to hormone free meats, we love everything this area provides us. You’ll find these ingredients showcased at the Wet Planet Café & Grill, in our espresso bar, and in meals served on our full-day White Salmon River trips, Class V trips, and kayak courses.
At Wet Planet Café & Grill, we make food that we are proud of and want to eat for ourselves with locally sourced & fresh ingredients, flavorful combinations, and generous portions. Here are some of our most popular options…
Our salmon sandwiches and tacos are our most ordered dishes. Using only freshly caught local salmon from Wild Columbia Salmon (often caught on the Klickitat River, where we teach our beginner kayaking courses), we create delectable entrees. On the sandwich, you will find lemon-dill aioli and cabbage slaw on a White Salmon Baking Co. or Blue Sky Bakery ciabatta bun. Meanwhile the tacos come topped with chipotle mayo, cabbage slaw, lime, cilantro, and avocado – and they are gluten free!
Hand pressed, locally raised beef from Mt. Shadow makes for great burgers. Add high quality bacon, cheese, and veggies like caramelized onions, tomatoes, and fresh greens and put it all on an artisan bun from White Salmon Baking Co., and you have a phenomenal burger.
For our veggie inclined friends, we offer various greens, including the Chef’s Salad and specials like the Nicoise Salad. The Chef’s Salad is loaded with seasonal fruits and vegetables from our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) on mixed greens from Stonework Farm or from our friend and former employee at Jean Marie’s Garden. The Nicoise Salad is a special menu item, created and inspired by Nice, France. Mixed greens from Stonework Farm, eggs from Green Pastures Farm, Wild Tuna, cherry tomatoes from Jean Marie’s Garden, green beans, olives and potatoes with a lemon based vinaigrette makes for a refreshing and delicieux salad.
Local Wine & Beer on Tap
The Pacific Northwest and the Gorge is known for beer. A good cold beer after whitewater rafting or kayaking the White Salmon River is the best! Beer served at Wet Planet is local and cold from the tap. Our distributors include Double Mountain Brewing, Backwoods Brewing, pFriem Beer, Everybody’s Brewing, and Ninkasi Brewing. We rotate our selection regularly, so you can get a cross-section of the PNW’s best beer.
While lesser known, but no less impressive, the Gorge is the perfect climate for wineries, and mirrors that of Italian wine making. Forbes Magazine called Gorge wine “poised for greatness.” AniChe Cellars, COR Cellars, White Salmon Vineyards, and Syncline Winery all use gorge grown grapes to create their various award-winning wines. You may not think of wine as the perfect end to a rafting trip, but a chilled glass of rose on our deck will change your mind!
