It all started in northern California in Yreka (30 miles from the Oregon border, true NorCal). As a teen, Paul was introduced to rafting and, not long after, also enlightened by the sport of kayaking. His skills and love for the river grew by paddling throughout the Klamath River watershed.
Paul lived in Arcata, CA during his undergraduate years at Humboldt State University while studying Environmental Science. During the academic year, he made an effort to get out on the weekends to enjoy the rivers of the north coast while also working as a whitewater kayak instructor for the university. A trip on the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River before his final semester also fueled Paul’s enthusiasm for outdoor expeditions. Following graduation, Paul moved to the Columbia River Gorge to begin exploring a new area of whitewater!
During the off-season, Paul has spent the past 2 winters biking through Mexico!
Paul is both a certified Wilderness First Responder and ACA whitewater kayak instructor. He teaches beginner and advanced kayak instruction as well as guiding trips on the White Salmon and Tieton rivers. Paul also assists with Wet Planet’s raft guide school.
