Growing up in Kernville, California, with the Kern River flowing directly through the heart of the town, Katie became passionate about the river and its lifestyle. She started working at a rafting company when she was 11 years old, washing wetsuits, taking photos, and sneaking on any trip she could. Katie quickly became dedicated to becoming a river guide. At 15, she began guiding class III whitewater for the company, and as soon as she turned 18, she stepped up to class IV-V whitewater and learned how to hard shell kayak.
After a really fun, high water season on the Kern, drought struck the Sierra Nevada mountain range. With back-to-back low water seasons and her starving whitewater stomach, Katie broke out of her comfort zone by exploring all the incredible rivers the West offers. She has worked commercially in California, Arizona, Idaho, and Colorado, on the Kern River, Grand Canyon of the Colorado River, Payette River, and the Arkansas River.
The river is Katie’s favorite place in the entire world. She can spend all day, every day, on, in, or by it. When she’s not on the water, she is day-dreaming of being on it and counting down the seconds till she can get back to it. She owes everything to the river – the river has made Katie who she is today. She looks forward to all the places it has yet to take her and people she has yet to meet on it. She hopes to see you downstream!
