Karen spent time living all over the western United States, from Utah to Montana, Wyoming and Colorado, and finally settled in the heart of the PNW: BZ Corner, Washington. She has always been passionate about the outdoors, adventure and exploration, which led her to work as a raft guide, backpacking guide, trail crew member and fire crew member. Most recently, Karen has spent 3 seasons working as a Wilderness Ranger for the Mt. Adams Ranger District, giving her the chance to really explore the mountains and forests close to home.
Karen’s interest in kayak instruction was sparked during a volunteer position with First Descents, a non-profit organization focused on providing life-changing adventures for young adults impacted by cancer. She was drawn to the opportunity to share her passion for kayaking with others, and help give people a chance to experience the joy of the river.
Karen is a trained Wilderness First Responder, Swiftwater Rescue Technician and ACA Kayak Instructor. In her free time, she enjoys kayaking, rock climbing, running, yoga, road biking, aerial silks, backpacking, and avoiding sunburns.
