Jackie fell in love with whitewater while learning to guide on the rivers in western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee. While developing her guiding skills, she also discovered an amazing group of people and a passion for kayaking. After teaching high school mathematics in Asheville, North Carolina for a few years, Jackie also guided in Colorado before heading to the Pacific Northwest in 2012. As soon as Jackie arrived in the Columbia River Gorge, she fell in love with its beauty, the whitewater opportunities, and another amazing community.
At the end of the 2012 rafting season, Jackie traveled to chase the summer and whitewater season in the southern hemisphere when she spent the winter exploring the different cultures, dramatic landscapes, and incredible whitewater in South America. She also helped a friend start an adventure tourism company in Pucon, Chile that offers whitewater trips immersed in a cultural experience. Not to mention, Jackie embarked upon a solo travel and paddling trip to Uganda last year as well!
While Jackie continues to adventure around the country and the globe, the Columbia River Gorge is always calling her name. She is always excited to return to rafting and kayaking the White Salmon and other great rivers in the Pacific Northwest.
